Failing to maintain board certification requirements should not bar physicians from practice, according to discussions at the American Medical Association annual meeting reported in American Medical News.
Physicians have expressed concern that continually updated requirements from the Federation of State Medical Boards and individual medical boards create undue time and financial burdens.
To combat this, the AMA is collaborating with the FSMB and the American Board of Medical Specialties to ensure that all requirements for maintenance of certification are accepted as meeting maintenance of licensure, the report said.
