Invasive cardiologists make the highest average yearly salary, according to the Merritt Hawkins 2019 review of physician and advanced practitioner recruiting incentives.
Merritt Hawkins, a national healthcare consulting and recruiting firm, included a sample of 3,131 permanent physician and advanced practitioner search assignments the company conducted for its clients from April of last year to the end of this March in its review.
The top 10 highest-paid physician specialties:
1. Invasive cardiology: $648,000
2. Orthopedic surgery: $536,000
3. Gastroenterology: $495,000
4. Urology: $464,000
5. Noninvasive cardiology: $441,000
6. Dermatology: $420,000
7. Anesthesiology: $404,000
8. Otolaryngology: $402,000
9. Pulmonology/critical care: $399,000
10. Hematology/Oncology: $393,000
