Over 400 physicians shared their thoughts on retirement with MDLinx.
The key thoughts include:
1. The difficulties in solo practice. Respondents said that the difficulty of running a solo practice would force them to retire, citing declining reimbursement.
2. Reasons to consider retirement. The key reasons physicians cite for thinking about retirement include : reaching financial security (43.1 percent), health and family (40 percent), continuing medical recertification (17.8) requirements, "other" reasons (10.8 percent) and pursuing another career (9.75 percent).
3. Burnout plays a part. Physicians also cited burnout stemming from EHRs and paperwork as reasons to retire.
