Naomi Kuznets, PhD, vice president and senior director of the AAAHC, shared four insights on using benchmarking statistics to improve ASC performance over time.
Here are the insights Dr. Kuznets shared:
1. Some organizations participating in benchmarking studies still fail to use the knowledge gained in a quality improvement program.
2. When organizations use the AAAHC's "10 elements" of a quality improvement plan most often meet AAAHC's standards for a quality improvement program and improved performance.
3. An organization's benchmarking activities should ideally include: using performance measures that are appropriate, collecting and analyzing data systematically, using valid benchmarks that are related to valid data and measuring changes in performance.
4. Successful participation in a benchmarking study should demonstrate improvements in performance over time, and the results should be incorporated into other quality improvements and should be shared with an organization's governing body.
