Healthcare industry executives are confident artificial intelligence technologies will enhance care, and most have implemented AI strategies, according to a HealthLeaders Fact File sponsored by Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Optum.
OptumIQ surveyed 500 senior healthcare leaders from health plans, hospitals, life sciences organizations and hospitals.
Leaders believe AI will:
1. Improve patient experience: 36 percent
2. Decrease per-capita cost of care: 33 percent
3. Improve health outcomes: 31 percent
Leaders expect to see a return on investment in:
4. Three years or less: 31 percent
5. Four to five years: 30 percent
6. More than five years: 35 percent
7. Never ("May never see tangible cost savings"): 4 percent
Progress on AI implementation:
8. Have an AI strategy in place and implemented: 33 percent
9. Have a strategy but not yet implemented: 42 percent
10. Don't have a strategy in place but plan to create one: 18 percent
11. Don't have a strategy in place and don't plan to create one: 7 percent
