Utah School of Medicine receives $75k grant from AMA to research medical school costs: 5 notes

The American Medical Association gave the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City a three-year grant to research medical school costs, according to The Daily Utah Chronicle.

Here are five notes:

1. The school will research medical school costs, and define the value of the education while considering the financial aspect.

2. The University of Utah will use the Value Driven Outcomes tool to discover clinical, professional and faculty costs.

3. The grant money will also go toward researching the essential lessons in the first two years of medical school.

4. The Association of American Medical Colleges reports medical students graduated with an average debt of $180,000 in 2014. The median annual cost of attending medical school in the United States reaches $34,500.

5. The AMA created a consortium of 20 medical schools, offering the schools grants to address major problems in healthcare.
