Columbus-based Ohio Surgery Center is hosting a Teddy Bear Tonsillectomy Day Sept. 9.
Here's what you should know:
1. During the free event, children ages 4 to 8 will learn about ASCs and the medical field.
2. The children will pretend to be physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, scrub technicians and other medical staff members.
3. The kids will walk their teddy bears through pediatric surgery procedures at various interactive stations. The teddy bears will visit the throat doctor and the pharmacy, as well as undergo a tonsillectomy.
4. The event is intended to help alleviate kids' concerns about surgery and introduce them to the possibility of a career in medicine.
