There's a senior care gap — 5 quick notes

The United States is facing an insufficient number of caregivers for seniors, according to SEIU.

1. More than 19 million seniors need long-term care support and services.

2. The number of seniors needing care is set to double by 2050.

3. A mere 2 million home care workers are presently tasked with caring for seniors in their homes.

4. Factors such as low wages, limited public funding, high workforce turnover and a lack of caregiver training attribute to the increasing senior care gap.

5. Unless the gap in care is addressed, our nation will face higher rates of injury and medical complication, higher per capita healthcare costs as well as more stress and seniors and their families.
