Dermatologists and emergency physicians are sexually harassed by patients more frequently than other physicians, according to Medscape's Patients Sexually Harassing Physicians Report 2018.
Medscape surveyed 6,235 respondents across 29-plus specialties.
Here's the percentage of physicians in each specialty that reported being harassed by patients:
1. Dermatology: 46 percent
2. Emergency medicine: 43 percent
3. Plastic surgery/aesthetic medicine: 41 percent
4. Diabetes/endocrinology: 38 percent
5. Nephrology: 37 percent
6. Oncology: 35 percent
7. Physical medicine and rehabilitation: 35 percent
8. Psychiatry: 35 percent
9. Critical care: 33 percent
10. Anesthesiology: 30 percent
11. Family medicine: 30 percent
12. Gastroenterology: 28 percent
13. Internal medicine: 28 percent
14. Neurology: 28 percent
15. Pulmonary medicine: 27 percent
16. Specialized surgery: 26 percent
17. Urology: 26 percent
18. General surgery: 25 percent
19. Public health and prevention: 23 percent
20. Orthopedic surgery: 22 percent
21. Allergy and immunology: 21 percent
