MedXCom, a Bedminster, N.J.-based night call management and HIPAA-secure texting company, will partner with the Medical Society of New Jersey in Lawrenceville in an effort to protect physicians' privacy and improve patient communication.
Here are five things to know:
1. MedXCom will provide MSNJ members with its cloud-based live operating system at a discounted price. The technology is accessible through a smartphone app.
2. The night call system has a caller ID protection for physicians, notifies of urgent calls and offers HIPAA-secure texting. MedXCom also records and keeps conversations with patients for 23 years.
3. Patients receive a "portable medical record" that is HIPAA compliant, which allows any physician to diagnose more accurately as they can immediately view patients' medical records.
4. Healthcare organizations can choose whether they want the system fully automated or have live operators pick up urgent calls.
5. Michael Nusbaum, MD, FACS, FASMBS, FACN; Michael Rothkopf, MD, FACP, FACN, FTOS; and Annette Nusbaum, MD, developed MedXCom in 2010 to improve patient safety by streamlining patient and physician interaction.
6. The technology came into fruition after one of the founders' colleagues was sued due to a miscommunication following a night call.
"It's believed that over 60 percent of live operator assisted night calls don't make it into the patient's record or are transcribed inaccurately, which can cost a physician more than a misdiagnosis," said Dr. Nusbaum.
