Las Colinas Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine theft affects 76K patient records

An electronic device was reportedly stolen from Irving, Texas-based Las Colinas Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine, compromising 76,000 patient records.

What you should know:

1. The theft was reported to HHS' Office for Civil Rights Jan. 18.

2. A business associate was present at the time of the theft.

3. The patient information was stored in an unspecified kind of electronic portable device.
