Josie Robertson Surgery Center incorporates real-time locating system technology: 5 key notes

Memorial Sloan Kettering's Josie Robertson Surgery Center now includes a real-time locating system for improved patient flow.

The surgery center incorporated Versus Technology and Ronco Specialized Systems' technology, going live in January.

Here are five key notes on the technology:

1. The Versus technology helped JRSC manage their 40 to 50 patient cases per day load. The center incorporated the Versus Advantages OR, which monitors patient flow through the 12 operating rooms and 40 perioperative beds.

2. The technology integrates 30 points of data from six ancillary systems, including Epic and Allscripts, and there are 39 Glance-and-Go electronic white boards throughout the facility.

3. The center staff can use the whiteboards to see the past, present and future surgery schedules, communicate patient wait times, monitor OR beds and availability and deliver alerts for room turnover.

4. Versus also developed the bi-directional integration with Epic OpTime to automate documentation and reduce data entry. The company also developed the PostOp Summary View in cooperation with JRSC to detail patient progress on the clinical care pathway.

5. The RTLS technology allows an ambulation estimation for how far the patient walks after surgery to make sure patients meet their goals.
