The Florida Legislature and Gov. Rick Scott are working together to establish better transparency in the healthcare industry, according to 6 South Florida.
Here are five observations:
1. Rep. Chris Sprowls (R) and Sen. Rob Bradley (R) are backing legislation that calls for enhanced cost transparency.
2. The politicians hope to provide patients with the real costs of healthcare before they use any services.
3. The legislation calls for healthcare providers to list approximate costs of services, ideally on their websites.
4. The politicians also propose that providers itemize services, so patients fully understand costs of procedures versus appointments and tests.
5. Gov. Scott created a Commission on Health Care and Hospital Funding in the spring of 2015, which addresses these price transparency concerns.
