Center for Sight in Sarasota invites patients family to video-tape procedures: 5 key notes

The Center for Sight in Sarasota, Fla., now allows family members to use personal video cameras and mobile technology to video tape procedures, according to a Bradenton Herald report

Here are five things to know about the new policy:

1. Family and friends are able to view the surgical procedures from observation rooms adjoining to the operating room, and now may take personal videos of the procedure with the patient's permission.

2. The family and friends can videotape the surgery from the operating room or from a large digital screen connected to the surgeon's microscope.

3. David W. Shoemaker, MD, and William J. Lahners, MD, are clinical directors at the center, which includes LASIK, cataract surgery and advanced premium lenses and cosmetic procedures.

4. The director of operations is Kristin Zinkan and ASC nurse director is Cathy Perry. Peter Berden is the chief compliance and information officer.

5. There are seven surgeons associated with the center and 16 optometrists. The center also includes a hearing specialist and skin care professional.
