Advocate Aurora Health will hike minimum wage to $15 an hour — 4 insights

Advocate Aurora Health, which has dual headquarters in Downers Grove, Ill., and Milwaukee, plans to increase minimum wage for employees across the health system to $15 an hour, The Journal Times reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Wages will increase to $13 per hour in mid-2019, $14 per hour in early 2020 and $15 per hour by early 2021, according to a letter sent to employees from Advocate Aurora Chief Human Resources Officer Kevin Brady.

2. The health system employs more than 70,000 people, and its current hourly minimum wage ranges from $11 to $13.

3. The wage hikes will impact about 10,000 to 15,000 of those employees, including medical assistants, phlebotomists and certain technicians. The increase will likely have the most direct effect on food service and custodial workers.

4. Aurora's facilities include a new $83 million outpatient surgery center in Burlington, Wis.
