Vanderbilt offers $4.8M for property to build ASC, pediatric clinic
Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center wants to buy up to 14 acres of property in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a new ASC and pediatric clinic. VUMC has offered between $3.8 million and $4.8 million for land to construct the 37,500-square-foot medical building.
Northwell Health implementing gGastro for its 20+ affiliated hospitals, ASCs
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health will deploy the gGastro enterprise Endoscopy Report Writer by gMed, a Modernizing Medicine company, at 20-plus New York-based hospitals and ASCs. Northwell already rolled out the solution at Staten Island (N.Y.) University Hospital, and it will begin the process of converting its other facilities.
Oregon House passes extended recovery stay bill, allows ASC patients to stay 48 hours
Oregon House Bill 4020 was unanimously passed on March 12, which will allow extended stay recovery centers in the state. Under the bill, patients are able to spend 48 hours recovering from procedures at an ASC. Previously, Oregon ASCs were required to discharge patients within 24 hours of admission.
Global 1 expands bundled payment system to 85 outpatient surgery centers
Global 1 expanded its medical bundled payment system to include a network of more than 85 outpatient surgery centers, featuring more than 650 physicians, in California. The partnership makes Global 1 the largest commercially insured bundled payments manager in California and one of the largest in the nation.
North Carolina's 1st pediatric dental care ASC to open
Fayetteville, N.C.-based Valleygate Dental Surgery Center, the first ASC in North Carolina focused on children's dental care, is set for a grand opening in March. Village Family Dental plans to open other centers in Charlotte, N.C., and Greensboro, N.C.
Congress questions Joint Commission accreditation process
The House and Energy Commerce Committee sent a letter to The Joint Commission requesting a briefing on its survey process and interactions with CMS by April 6. The Congressional committee is conducting oversight of The Joint Commission, CMS and three other accreditation organizations to check adherence to federal standards for Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Longtime Aetna executive to join Surgery Partners as CFO
Thomas Cowhey will serve as Surgery Partners' executive vice president and CFO beginning April 2. Mr. Cowhey has worked for Aetna since 2007, most recently as CFO of the company's institution business portfolio and previously as CFO of Aetna's consumer health and services business.
