Athens-Limestone Hospital receives CON approval for $30M surgery center
 Athens (Ala.)-Limestone Hospital's application for a $30 million surgery center was approved by the Alabama Certificate of Need Board. The surgery center will have six operating rooms and will be approximately 90,000 square feet.

St. Mary's Medical Center undergoes a CNN investigation
St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., is undergoing an investigation after CNN aired a story on June 2 about the 464-bed hospital's pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program and its mortality rate. St. Mary's CEO David Carbone resigned from his position two days after the hospital announced permanent closure of the surgery program.

AmSurg's price target raised to $83.63
Eight financial analysts gave AmSurg an average price target of $83.63. The company has a market cap of $3.94 billion.

Large insurers showed greatest increase in premiums in 2015
A recent study revealed the biggest health insurers raised premiums an average of 75 percent more this year than smaller insurers in each state. The largest insurance raised rates by an average of 23.9 percent, according to the study in the Harvard Journal of Technology Science.

Execs fired as cost of Epic EHR rollout grows at NYC Health and Hospitals
Four executives of New York City Health and Hospitals Corps. have been fired over the past six months with investigators looking into the health system's implementation of a new EHR. The hospital is in the middle of an Epic EHR implementation, and the hospital signed the original contract in January 2013, which is worth $302 million over 15 years.
 
Walgreens & Providence Health collaborate to improve patient care
Walgreens and Providence Health & Services in Renton, Wash. will enter a clinical collaboration to coordinate patient care and enhance patient access in Oregon and Washington. Providence, a nonprofit Catholic healthcare ministry, will own and operate the clinics, which will be the first to open at Walgreens stores.

Health officials declare the Bronx Legionnaires' outbreak is over
The Legionnaires' outbreak in the Bronx, which started in early July, is over with the last case being reported on Aug. 3. The source of the outbreak was linked to a contaminated cooling tower on the Opera House Hotel.
