SCA is partnering with St. Paul, Minn.-based HealthEast on a merger of HealthEast's Midway Surgery Center and Maplewood Surgery Center.
Here are four things to know:
1. The partnership went into effect March 1, 2016.
2. Maplewood Surgery Center is a joint venture between SCA, HealthEast and physician investors.
3. Through the partnership, the multispecialty ASC will offer orthopedic, podiatry, otolaryngology, gynecology and general surgery services, among others.
4. SCA operated 193 surgical facilities, including ASCs and surgical hospitals, as of Dec. 31, 2015. The organization includes more than 6,000 teammates and 7,500 physicians who perform 750,000 procedures per year in SCA facilities.
"Maplewood is centrally located within our service area," said Peter Kelly, MD, vice president and executive medical director, SCA. "This merger supports the needs of our patients and communities and offers partnership and practice opportunities to more surgeons. We also expect it to strengthen our partnership with SCA."
