Rex Healthcare, based in Raleigh, N.C., has sold a 22 percent controlling stake in Rex Surgery Center of Cary (N.C.) to a physician group, according to a report from MedCity News.
The 25-physician group will pay $3 million for the shares of the ambulatory surgery center, and will have the option to buy additional shares and grow its stake up to 45 percent over the next year. Rex Healthcare will retain its majority stake the facility but the physicians will be involved in operational decisions.
The ASC currently performs about 3,250 cases annually, and the addition of the new physician group could increase that number by 2,000 cases, according to the report.
Surgical services offered at the surgery center include gynecology, plastic surgery, ENT and orthopedics, according to the ASC's website.
