Optum, parent company of ASC chain SCA Health, is the country's largest employer of physicians, with a portfolio of 90,000 affiliated.
Here's a breakdown of the deals the company has inked or announced since January 2023:
Physician groups and clinics
Earlier this month, Optum announced it's eyeing the acquisition of the physician-owned Corvallis (Ore.) Clinic, which operates 11 locations and an ASC.
In February 2023, Optum acquired Middletown, N.Y.-based multispecialty physician group Crystal Run Healthcare.
Home health providers
In June, Optum announced plans to merge with Baton Rouge, La.-based home health and hospice provider Amedisys in a $3.3 billion acquisition.
In February 2023, Optum closed on a multimillion-dollar deal to acquire home health and hospice company LHC Group.
Health systems
Optum struck a deal with Waukesha, Wis.-based ProHealth Care in which it will hire more than 800 of its employees. Optum will manage the health system's revenue cycle management, information technology, informatics, analytics and inpatient care management.
In January 2023, Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health tapped Optum to manage its revenue cycle management, information systems, inpatient care management, analytics, project management office and supply chain functions.
Also in January 2023, Owensboro (Ky.) Health selected Optum to manage its revenue cycle operations and IT services. Optum hired 575 employees from the health system.
Health technology
In October, Optum's $1.51 billion acquisition of health technology firm EMIS Group was approved by the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority.
Uber
Optum and Uber inked a deal that will cover some Medicare Advantage beneficiaries' purchases in the Uber app. The offerings, which began Jan. 1, allow members with a health benefit card issued on Optum's payments platform to purchase rides and groceries and over-the-counter items for delivery.
