New York ASC redesigned to improve patient experience — 4 insights

Josie Robertson Surgery Center in New York City was redesigned to improve the patient experience, according to Fast Company

Four insights:

1. The surgery center, which is part of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, features 12 operating rooms for outpatient procedures. More than half of the 20,000 operations performed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Surgeons each year are done as outpatient cases.

2. The redesign focused on waiting rooms, sign-in interfaces, hallways and patient rooms.

3. Memorial Sloan hung art in the hallways of postoperative areas, redesigned waiting rooms with comfort in mind, and implemented a real-time location tracking system that enables patients to walk throughout the building freely.

4. Patients now check in with a human instead of a screen and can use video conferencing to speak to family members or physicians remotely.
