Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina is opening a new location in a shopping mall, which will include an ASC, according to Charleston Business.
Here are four things to know:
1. MUSC signed the lease in October to occupy the space, once housing a J.C. Penney location. The rent for the space is $168,192, totaling $37.5 million for the duration of the 15-year lease.
2. The 126,000-square-foot facility spans multiple floors and will include surgical procedures as well as radiology and therapy. One floor will be dedicated to physician offices and exam rooms.
3. Renovations are expected to cost $32.9 million and MUSC will split costs with Trademark Properties, which purchased the space in August 2016.
4. MUSC expects the new facility to open in 18 to 24 months and serve as a more convenient location for ambulatory and outpatient care.
5. Four years ago, MUSC began its transition away from centralized locations downtown Charleston and has been moving locations closer to the neighborhoods where patients live; this most recent move will put a MUSC location in Citadel Mall in Charleston.
