Jersey City Medical Center opens urgent care center — 7 notes

Jersey City Medical Center in Greenville, N.J., has opened a medical arts complex offering an array of services and will soon open an urgent care center.

Here are seven notes:

1. Officials hope the new facility will bring in revenue for the hospital that closed in 2008 after losing $3 million a year.

2. The outpatient center has been serving residents since March with each of its services aiding specific needs of the population of Greenville.

3. The ceremony for the opening of the facility was attended by approximately 200 guests including Mayor Steve Fulop, council members and several freeholders.

4. The three-story facility will have a pharmacy, counseling and free HIV/STI testing in addition to an audiology, speech and language services program. All of these services will be offered on the first floor.

5. The second floor will consist of the Center for Comprehensive Care, which provides medical services and case management to those individuals with HIV. The MAASH program will also be located on the second floor, a program connecting homeless people with counseling and house services.

6. The third floor of the facility will provide counseling for those patients who do not have health insurance as well as programs for children with special needs.

7. The facility presently has around 140 employees with plans to hire an additional 60 individuals.
