Hospital for Special Surgery to open HSS ASC of Manhattan in June: 5 things to know

Hospital for Special Surgery plans to open the HSS ASC of Manhattan in June.

Here are five things to know:

1. David S. Levine, MD, a foot and ankle surgeon at HSS, will be the surgery center's new medical director. The center will focus on extremities care and sports medicine procedures.

2. The 22,425-square-foot facility is located a short distance from the main HSS campus and includes four operating rooms as well as 16 pre- and postsurgical bays.

3. The center's senior director Bryan Guss, RN, BSN, will join HSS from Northern Westchester Hospital.

4. There are 10 sports medicine specialists who will perform cases at the center; five foot and ankle surgeons and five hand and upper extremity surgeons. An additional 20 specialty surgeons and three anesthesiologists will provide care.

5. The HSS main campus will still perform ambulatory surgery cases, but the new ASC will be an additional surgical location option for patients.

"For nearly three decades HSS has been leading the field of orthopedics and rheumatology in quality and patient experience," said Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of HSS. "HSS is more than a hospital and we're constantly working to identify new ways to make better quality care more accessible through research, innovation and locations like this new ASC."
