The Medical Board of California toured Fort Sutter Surgery Center in Sacramento in February.
The MBC Executive Director Kim Kirchmeyer, Chief of Legislation Jennifer Simoes and Staff Council Kerrie Webb toured the center. Here are five key notes about the tour:
1. While at the center, the MBC representatives saw the ASC operations, peer review and adverse events reporting process.
2. Under the direction of Regional Director of Operations, Sutter Surgery Division Brad Heaton, the ASC's team demonstrated the patient experience from pre-op to discharge. The MBC group dressed for the occasion and toured "behind the red line."
3. Rita Bowen, vice president of clinical operations, Sutter Surgery Center Division, gave a presentation to the MBC members on the ASC credentialing, peer review and adverse event reporting process.
4. The entire group had a discussion on the challenges for both ASCs and MBC; Ms. Bowen reported the MBC members were open-minded and wanted to learn more about ASCs.
5. Fort Sutter Surgery Center is AAAHC-accredited and includes gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, pain management, podiatry and vascular surgery.
