Envision, Takeda & more — The 7 biggest healthcare deals in 2018

Healthcare deals hit a record total of $421 billion in 2018, and the transactions could radically change pharmaceuticals and disease treatments, Business Insider reports.

These were the seven biggest deals closed or announced in 2018:

1. Takeda's planned takeover of Shire: $77 billion
2. Cigna's acquisition of Express Scripts: $68.5 billion
3. GlaxoSmithKline's agreement to purchase of Novartis's stake in a consumer health joint venture: $13 billion
4. Sanofi's agreement to buy Bioverati: $10.9 billion
5. KKR's acquisition of Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare: $9.5 billion
6. Celgene's acquisition of Juno: $8.9 billion
7. Novartis' agreement to acquire AveXis: $8.1 billion
