ASC certificate of need requirements, by state

Certificate of need legislation makes a big difference for surgery center development.

It's easier for physicians to develop surgery centers in states without CON restrictions, and some states with CON requirements are considering removing them in the future. There have been notable developments in North Carolina and Montana to revise CONs, according to a report from HealthCare Appraisers, and a new law eliminated CON requirements in South Carolina for ASCs earlier this year.
