9 Hospitals & Health Systems Planning, Opening ASCs

Here are 12 hospitals that announced plans or opened ambulatory surgery centers within the past month.

CHI St. Luke's Health plans to develop a $110 million facility in The Woodlands, Texas. The facility will include a 55,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center.

Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital completed the expansion of its surgery center, which is expected to open in 2015.

The Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary's, Ohio, plans to develop a new ASC. The Joint Township District Hospital Auxiliary presented the hospital with a $15,000 check for the project.

Novant Health, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., closed its third and rarely used operating room at Franklin Medical Center in Louisburg. The OR will be moved to an outpatient surgery center in Youngsville. The center will open in 2016.

Park Nicollet Health Services plans to spend $48 million to build a new facility next to its existing clinic. The existing clinic will be converted to surgery and endoscopy center.

Rex Healthcare, based in Raleigh, N.C., intends to recruit 20 surgeons to 30 surgeons for a joint venture surgery center.

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (Mich.) Hospital opened a 43,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center.

St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Ind., broke ground on a $40 million facility that will house a surgery center and intensive care unit. Construction is expected to reach completion in summer 2015.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs opened a 19,100-square-foot, $10 million outpatient surgery center on its Mather, Calif., campus.
