Abington Surgical Center (Willow Grove, Pa.). Abington Surgical Center opened in 1989 as an independent outpatient surgery center. The AAAHC, Medicare-certified center includes seven operating rooms and two rooms specifically for pain management procedures. The multispecialty facility performs an estimated 18,000 annual procedures.
Barkley Surgicenter (Fort Meyers, Fla.). Barkley Surgicenter opened in 1993 by a group of gastroenterologists. The center is utilized by nine practicing physicians all in the field of gastroenterology. It also has five physicians' assistants and two registered nurses. The center contains one operating room and three procedure rooms. Kerri Gantt serves as the administrative director and Catherine Mussellwhite as the clinical supervisor. Barkley physicians perform procedures which include 48-hour pH monitoring, capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, flexible sigmoidoscopy, hemorrhoidal treatment and more. They also treat myriad GI disorders.
Belleville (Ill.) Surgical Center. Belleville Surgical Center has been a multispecialty, freestanding ASC since its opening in 1976. The center is headed up by Administrator Diana Geoghegan and OR Nurse Manager Diana McCarkel, RN. Twenty-one physicians practice at Belleville in ophthalmology, oral surgery, podiatry, anesthesiology, general surgery, plastic surgery and orthopedics. The facility is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and managed by Surgical Care Affiliates.
Bellingham (Wash.) Surgery Center. Bellingham Surgery Center was opened in 1986 by a group of physicians and previously owned by Whatcom Medical Bureau, now called Regence. Symbion acquired the center in 1999. The ASC participates in Symbion's internal monitoring and tracking systems on patient care, safety, operations, quality improvement and patient satisfaction. It is accreditation through Joint Commission and Medicare certified.
Blackstone Valley Surgicare (Johnston, R.I.). Blackstone Valley Surgicare opened in 1976 by Paul Healey, MD, and moved to its current location in 2003. Ann Dugan, RN, serves as the multispecialty surgery center's administrator and Richard Browning, MD, as medical director. More than 50 physicians practice at Blackstone, which is managed by Surgical Care Affiliates.
Boca Raton (Fla.) Outpatient Surgery & Laser Center. Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery & Laser Center opened in 1992, and Kenneth Garrod, MD, performed the first procedure. It's a multispecialty facility that is licensed by the state of Florida and Medicare with Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care accreditation. Andrew Astrove, MD, and Harvey Plosker, MD, serve as the center's medical directors. The facility is a partnership between Surgical Care Affiliates and physician-owners. Its staff of more than 100 physicians uses the facility's six ORs and two GI suites to perform more than 8,000 cases annually.
Centennial Lakes Surgery Center (Edina, Minn.). Centennial Lakes Surgery Center was first licensed by the state and Medicare as an ASC in 1983. In 1992, Centennial Lakes became accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care. Rob Simmons serves as the center's administrator and Ronald Mason, MD, as medical director. Specialties available at the center include anesthesiology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, pain management and more. Seventy surgeons use the center.
Charlotte (N.C.) Surgery Center. Opened in 1985, this multispecialty partnership between Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) and local physicians features seven ORs. More than 12,000 cases are performed annually at the facility, which is a major player in sports medicine being home to several NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL team physicians. As such, they perform many hand, foot, ankle and pain procedures — more than 3,000 annually — with plastic surgeries and podiatry, GYN and ophthalmologic procedures making up the balance. The facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
Clifton (N.J.) Surgery Center. The Clifton Surgery Center was incorporated in 1991 and established in 1993. It is now licensed by the state of New Jersey and certified by Medicare. The center has two fully-equipped operating rooms, as well as a room designated for gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
Effingham (Ill.) Ambulatory Surgery Center. Effingham Surgery Center was started in 1992 by 14 physicians and purchased by Effingham Surgical Partners in 2001. In 2005 the surgery center completed a 10,900-square-foot addition with three new operating rooms. There are 31 surgeons on the medical staff at the surgery center, led by administrator Jeany Roberts, RN. Nineteen of the surgeons are owners, along with SurgCenter Development. Services performed at the surgery center include orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, pain management and podiatry. Fayetteville (N.C.) Ambulatory Surgery Center. Built in 1982, this joint venture between Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA), Cape Fear Valley Health System and local physicians features 11 ORs, three procedure rooms and five 23-hour stay rooms. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Fayetteville Ambulatory Surgery Center is home to more than 100 credentialed physicians who perform more than 13,000 cases annually in a wide variety of specialties. Front Range Orthopedic Surgery Center (Longmont, Colo.). Founded in 1970, Front Range Orthopedic Surgery Center is designed for orthopedic surgery and services. Physicians provide care in several orthopedic areas, including hand, shoulder, spine, sports medicine foot and ankle and joint replacement. The surgery center features digital imaging, MRI and electronic medical records. The ASC is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Hartford (Conn.) Surgical Center. Hartford Surgical Center has provided care since its opening in 1976 as the first ASC in Connecticut. The team of physicians and staff members is headed up by Joanne Roche, RN, administrator, and Keith Miller, MD, medical director. Six of the center's physicians have an ownership interest, and the center is a part of Surgical Care Affiliates. Hartford Surgical Center recently received designation as a minimally invasive sinus center in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. More than 70 physicians practice in nine different specialties.
Kentucky Surgery Center (Lexington). This AAAHC-accredited center opened in December 1986 and has been doing more than 10,000 cases a year since 2007. This physician-owned facility is 28,000 square feet and has seven ORs and three procedure rooms. Started by a small group of surgeons and anesthesiologists, the center now has more than 100 surgeons on staff and specializes in orthopedics, ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, plastics, podiatry, dentistry, pain management, urology, vascular, colorectal and pulmonary surgery.
Lattimore County Surgicenter (Rochester, N.Y.). Lattimore County Surgicenter was established in 1990 and is currently one of the oldest free-standing surgery centers in the Rochester area. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and Medicare-certified. In addition to orthopedic surgery, physicians at the center provide podiatry, general surgery and plastic surgery. There are four operating rooms and two procedure rooms.
Mid Florida Eye Center (Mount Dora, Fla.). Mid Florida Surgery Center was the area's first surgery center dedicated to eye care when it was opened in 1992 by Mid Florida Eye Center. Since then, the practice has opened a new 8,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center, The Surgery Center of The Villages, which includes three operating suites. Both surgery centers are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The practice includes five physicians who perform LASIK and refractive procedures, cataract surgery and eye lid surgery. They also treat retinal diseases, glaucoma and corneal diseases.
Mobile (Ala.) Surgery Center. Opened in 1984 as a partnership between Surgical Care Affiliates and local physicians, this multispecialty center boasts an impressive volume of orthopedic surgeries. Mobile Surgery Center's orthopedists specialize in the areas of sports medicine and spine surgery, as well as hand, foot and ankle. The center also does a large volume of pain procedures due to its heavy orthopedic practice. In fact, its three procedures rooms are specially designed for the use of pain physicians. The center has also been successful in podiatry, ophthalmology and GYN procedures. The facility was inspected by CMS/Medicare and received AAAHC accreditation with no deficiencies.
Newport Beach (Calif.) Surgery Center. Newport Beach Surgery Center opened in September 1992 and currently has five operating rooms, two special procedure rooms, a PACU with seven bays and two private extended stay rooms for patients who spend 23 hours at the surgery center. Led by Administrator Buffy Davis, the free standing ASC is 100 percent physician-owned and accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. Services performed at the surgery center include general surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology, orthopedics, urology and vascular surgery.
Northbank Surgical Center (Salem, Ore.). Northbank Surgical Center opened in 1984 and continues today as under the Surgical Care Affiliates umbrella. Northbank provides outpatient procedures in ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, oral and maxiofacial, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, neurosurgery, podiatry, pain management, general surgery and vascular surgery. Peggy Seidler, RN, serves as the administrator and John Johnson, MD, as medical director. The center has cared for more than 94,000 patients in its nearly 30 years of business.
Northwest Surgicare (Arlington Heights, Ill.). Northwest Surgicare started in 1974 and was the first ASC in Illinois. The multispecialty center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and is a member of Surgical Care Affiliates. Mike Divarco serves as Northwest Surgicare's administrator and Alexis Schoolcraft, RN, as director of nursing. Nearly 100 physicians practice in 12 specialties.
Orthopedic Associates Ambulatory Surgery Center (Oklahoma City). Orthopedic Associates Ambulatory Surgery Center was built in 1986 and has been updated continuously since then. The center is home to the physicians of Orthopedic Associates in Oklahoma City, who have a special interest in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, extremities care, fracture care, joint replacement and trauma. The physician-owned surgery center is Medicare-certified.
Orthopaedic Surgical Center (Greensboro, N.C.). When this facility opened in 1993, it was the first freestanding ambulatory surgical center on the East Coast dedicated to orthopedic surgery. Orthopaedic Surgical Center and its sister center, Surgical Center of Greensboro, have a total of 13 ORs. The center is a member of Surgical Care Affiliates. The two centers' recovery care center, opened in 1988, provides overnight care to those patients needing additional recovery time.
Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies (Fort Collins, Colo.). Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies opened in Fort Collins, Colo., in 1990, and expanded to include a Loveland location. The 23 physicians perform several thousand operations annually in the three-operating room center. The recovery center also has 10 private rooms. The orthopedic surgeons have fellowship training or board certifications in their specialties, which include spine surgery, back and neck surgery, sports medicine, hand and upper extremity surgery, joint replacement surgery, knee surgery, shoulder surgery, foot and ankle surgery and orthopedic trauma surgery.
Pain Management Center of Paducah (Ky.). Pain Management Center of Paducah began operation in 1992 and now performs more than 9,000 procedures annually. The surgery center is led by medical director Laxmaiah Manchikanti, MD, who has been chairman of the board and CEO of the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians and Society of Interventional Pain Management Surgery Centers. Services performed at the surgery center include epidural injections, facet joint blocks, sacroiliac joint injections, discography, radiofrequency neurotomy and nucleoplasty. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Parkside Surgery Center (Jacksonville, Fla.). Parkside Surgery Center began serving its community in 1992. Surgical services include endoscopy, oral and dental surgery, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedic surgeon, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and urology. The surgery center is Medicare-certified and has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The surgery center is affiliated with Memorial Hospital Jacksonville.
Pavonia Surgery Center (Jersey City, N.J.). Pavonia Surgery Center opened in April 1992 on the fourth floor of the Hudson Eye Physicians and Surgeons practice. The practice was founded by Alfonse A. Cinotti, MD, and Barry Maltzman, MD. The single-room private ambulatory surgical facility is approved for ophthalmology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology, pain management and orthopedics procedures. There are eight physician owners of the surgery center.
The Physician's Surgical Care Center (Winter Park, Fla.). Opened in 1993, the center is a partnership among Florida Hospital; Surgical Care Affiliates; Jewett Orthopedic Clinic; Ear, Nose, Throat & Plastic Surgery Associates and JLR Medical Group. Specializing in orthopedic, ENT and pain management, the center's 30 physicians perform upwards of 9,000 procedures each year. This four-OR surgery center with three treatment rooms is comparatively small, but boasts impressive stats, operating smoothly and efficiently to keep patients, physicians and teammates happy. It is accredited by the Joint Commission with deemed status.
Presidio Surgery Center (San Francisco). Presidio Surgery Center was initially founded in 1989 as a joint venture with Sutter Health. It is now a joint venture between several physician groups and Sutter. The facility includes five operating rooms and one procedure room where physicians perform approximately 6,000 cases annually. There are several types of procedures performed at the center, including hip arthroscopy, minimally invasive spine surgery and pain management. The surgeons are also beginning to perform minimally invasive joint replacements. There are 41 physician partners and the orthopedic surgeons provide care for the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Ballet and Golden State Warriors. In addition to the surgical services, the center includes physical therapy for joint replacement patients. Further specialties at the surgery center include urology, ENT and general surgery.
Seattle Surgery Center. Seattle Surgery Center was founded in 1988 as the First Hill Surgery Center and relocated in 1993 to its current location in the old Cabrini Hospital. SSC is now a seven-operating room multispecialty ASC with a focus on orthopedics and ophthalmology. More than 100 credentialed physicians practice in 11 specialties. SSC is a member of the Washington Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and ASCA.
Southwestern Ambulatory Surgery Center (Pleasant Hills, Pa.). Southwestern Ambulatory Surgery Center opened in October 1986 as one of the first multi-specialty ASCs in Pennsylvania. Philip Ripepi, MD, helped found the center. It was solo- physician owned for about 17 years until 2007 when a joint venture between 24 physicians, dentists and Titan Health Corporation was formed. It is now a joint venture between the physicians, Monongahela Valley Hospital and United Surgical Partners International. SWASC consists of four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and one treatment room, and the facility performs approximately 3,800 annual adult and pediatric procedures, including general surgery, ophthalmology, GI, maxillofacial, dental, ENT, plastics, podiatry, urology and orthopedics.
Specialty Surgery Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Specialty Surgery Center has provided care for more than 35,000 patients in its community since 1992. It was the first Medicare-certified surgery center in the United States to provide oral and maxillofacial surgery, and in 2005 its license expanded to include ophthalmology and plastic surgery. The surgery center is led by President and CEO Jeffrey B. Carter, MD, DMD, and includes physicians in pediatric dentistry and dental implantology in addition to ophthalmology, plastic surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
St. Cloud (Minn.) Surgical Center. St. Cloud Surgical Center opened in 1972 by Joseph Belshe, MD, and was the first freestanding outpatient surgical center in Minnesota. Since its inception, St. Cloud Surgical has grown to 11 operating rooms and 36,000 square feet. In 1980 the center earned its first certification from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and has remained AAAHC-certified since. Jeanette Stack is the center's administrator and Jay Krauss, MD, the medical director. St. Cloud Surgical is affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates.
Summit Ambulatory Surgical Centers (Baltimore). Summit Ambulatory Surgical Centers, the 15-ASC arm of Chesapeake Urology Associates, opened its first surgery center in 1992 at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore City, Md. The surgery centers are home to 36,000 cases annually and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Services performed at the center include brachytherapy for prostate cancer, cytoscopy, prostate biopsy, vasectomy, hydrocelectomy, circumcision, and spermatocelectomy. Chesapeake Urology includes more than 45 physicians and 16 urology centers in addition to the 15 ASCs. The surgeons have been engaged in more than 100 clinical trials and performed more than 1,000 successful robotic prostatectomies.
Surgecenter of Louisville (Ky.). Surgecenter of Louisville in Kentucky opened in 1976, and it was the first ambulatory surgery center in the state and one of the first 10 in the country. Though still in the same location, Surgecenter has grown from an ophthalmology-focused center into a multispecialty facility with 40 practicing physicians. The physicians perform an average of 480 cases per month, and the facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Vicki Burns serves as the center's administrator, and it has been affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates since 2000.
Surgical Center of Greensboro (N.C.). Comprised of two facilities across the street from one another, this multispecialty center features a combined total of 13 ORs. Since 1983 and 1993 respectively, the Surgical Center of Greensboro and Orthopaedic Surgical Center have been safe, affordable and efficient options for outpatient surgical services in their community. Affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) they serve more than 13,000 patients and families annually, with more than 100 credentialed physicians and 140 teammates. Procedures include ENT, GYN, ophthalmology, oral, orthopedics, pain, plastic and general surgery. Together, the facilities feature nine 23-hour private recovery rooms and are accredited by The Joint Commission.
Toledo (Ohio) Clinic Outpatient Surgery Center. Toledo Clinic Outpatient Surgery Center, established in 1984, has 10 operating suites. The center is accredited by the AAAHC and recognized by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as a quality endoscopy center. Since its opening, the center underwent a large renovation project, increasing it from a 26,000-square-foot facility to the 35,500-square-foot center it is today. The center completes more than 11,000 procedures each year.
Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center (St. Charles, Ill.). Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center has been operating since 1987 and currently has more than 165 area multispecialty physicians on the medical staff. Physicians at VASC routinely perform more than 750 different types of procedures. The center boats a 99 percent patient satisfaction rating and an infection rate of less than 0.1 percent.
Venture Surgery Center (North Miami Beach, Fla.). Venture Ambulatory Surgery Center was established in 1992 and is a member of HCA. It has been accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care since 1999 and is part of the Medicare program. The surgery center includes 13 physician members on staff, led by medical director Susan Sager, DO. Surgeons use endoscopic techniques to perform gastroenterology procedures at the surgery center. The surgery center is affiliated with Aventura Medical Center.
Vidant SurgiCener (Greenville, N.C.). Vidant SurgiCenter is a free-standing multispecialty facility that annually performs more than 12,000 procedures. The center opened in 1982 and currently has a medical team of over 200 physicians. The center offers specialty procedures in general surgery, dental and oral surgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ENT, plastic surgery, gynecology, podiatry, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology and urology. The 40,000-square-foot center contains 10 operating rooms, 14 pre-operative beds, a 24 bed post anesthesia care unit, two pediatric pre-operative rooms and a six bed recovery center for 23 hour stays.
Virginia Beach (Va.) Ambulatory Surgery Center. The Virginia Beach Ambulatory Surgery Center is a for-profit outpatient surgery center that opened in October 1989. The ASC is a joint venture between physician partners and Sentara Health System to provide multispecialty care for adult and pediatric patients. Orthopedic services at the ASC include arthroscopy, ACL repair, carpal tunnel release, fracture repair and rotator cuff repair. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Wilmington (N.C.) SurgCare. Wilmington SurgCare was established in 1992 and includes surgeons specializing in otolaryngology, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, pain management, urology and podiatry. Fayetteville (N.C.) Ambulatory Surgery Center. Built in 1982, this joint venture between Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA), Cape Fear Valley Health System and local physicians features 11 ORs, three procedure rooms and five 23-hour stay rooms. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Fayetteville Ambulatory Surgery Center is home to more than 100 credentialed physicians who perform more than 13,000 cases annually in a wide variety of specialties. Front Range Orthopedic Surgery Center (Longmont, Colo.). Founded in 1970, Front Range Orthopedic Surgery Center is designed for orthopedic surgery and services. Physicians provide care in several orthopedic areas, including hand, shoulder, spine, sports medicine foot and ankle and joint replacement. The surgery center features digital imaging, MRI and electronic medical records. The ASC is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Hartford (Conn.) Surgical Center. Hartford Surgical Center has provided care since its opening in 1976 as the first ASC in Connecticut. The team of physicians and staff members is headed up by Joanne Roche, RN, administrator, and Keith Miller, MD, medical director. Six of the center's physicians have an ownership interest, and the center is a part of Surgical Care Affiliates. Hartford Surgical Center recently received designation as a minimally invasive sinus center in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. More than 70 physicians practice in nine different specialties.
Kentucky Surgery Center (Lexington). This AAAHC-accredited center opened in December 1986 and has been doing more than 10,000 cases a year since 2007. This physician-owned facility is 28,000 square feet and has seven ORs and three procedure rooms. Started by a small group of surgeons and anesthesiologists, the center now has more than 100 surgeons on staff and specializes in orthopedics, ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, plastics, podiatry, dentistry, pain management, urology, vascular, colorectal and pulmonary surgery.
Lattimore County Surgicenter (Rochester, N.Y.). Lattimore County Surgicenter was established in 1990 and is currently one of the oldest free-standing surgery centers in the Rochester area. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and Medicare-certified. In addition to orthopedic surgery, physicians at the center provide podiatry, general surgery and plastic surgery. There are four operating rooms and two procedure rooms.
Mid Florida Eye Center (Mount Dora, Fla.). Mid Florida Surgery Center was the area's first surgery center dedicated to eye care when it was opened in 1992 by Mid Florida Eye Center. Since then, the practice has opened a new 8,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center, The Surgery Center of The Villages, which includes three operating suites. Both surgery centers are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The practice includes five physicians who perform LASIK and refractive procedures, cataract surgery and eye lid surgery. They also treat retinal diseases, glaucoma and corneal diseases.
Mobile (Ala.) Surgery Center. Opened in 1984 as a partnership between Surgical Care Affiliates and local physicians, this multispecialty center boasts an impressive volume of orthopedic surgeries. Mobile Surgery Center's orthopedists specialize in the areas of sports medicine and spine surgery, as well as hand, foot and ankle. The center also does a large volume of pain procedures due to its heavy orthopedic practice. In fact, its three procedures rooms are specially designed for the use of pain physicians. The center has also been successful in podiatry, ophthalmology and GYN procedures. The facility was inspected by CMS/Medicare and received AAAHC accreditation with no deficiencies.
Newport Beach (Calif.) Surgery Center. Newport Beach Surgery Center opened in September 1992 and currently has five operating rooms, two special procedure rooms, a PACU with seven bays and two private extended stay rooms for patients who spend 23 hours at the surgery center. Led by Administrator Buffy Davis, the free standing ASC is 100 percent physician-owned and accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. Services performed at the surgery center include general surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology, orthopedics, urology and vascular surgery.
Northbank Surgical Center (Salem, Ore.). Northbank Surgical Center opened in 1984 and continues today as under the Surgical Care Affiliates umbrella. Northbank provides outpatient procedures in ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, oral and maxiofacial, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, neurosurgery, podiatry, pain management, general surgery and vascular surgery. Peggy Seidler, RN, serves as the administrator and John Johnson, MD, as medical director. The center has cared for more than 94,000 patients in its nearly 30 years of business.
Northwest Surgicare (Arlington Heights, Ill.). Northwest Surgicare started in 1974 and was the first ASC in Illinois. The multispecialty center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and is a member of Surgical Care Affiliates. Mike Divarco serves as Northwest Surgicare's administrator and Alexis Schoolcraft, RN, as director of nursing. Nearly 100 physicians practice in 12 specialties.
Orthopedic Associates Ambulatory Surgery Center (Oklahoma City). Orthopedic Associates Ambulatory Surgery Center was built in 1986 and has been updated continuously since then. The center is home to the physicians of Orthopedic Associates in Oklahoma City, who have a special interest in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, extremities care, fracture care, joint replacement and trauma. The physician-owned surgery center is Medicare-certified.
Orthopaedic Surgical Center (Greensboro, N.C.). When this facility opened in 1993, it was the first freestanding ambulatory surgical center on the East Coast dedicated to orthopedic surgery. Orthopaedic Surgical Center and its sister center, Surgical Center of Greensboro, have a total of 13 ORs. The center is a member of Surgical Care Affiliates. The two centers' recovery care center, opened in 1988, provides overnight care to those patients needing additional recovery time.
Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies (Fort Collins, Colo.). Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies opened in Fort Collins, Colo., in 1990, and expanded to include a Loveland location. The 23 physicians perform several thousand operations annually in the three-operating room center. The recovery center also has 10 private rooms. The orthopedic surgeons have fellowship training or board certifications in their specialties, which include spine surgery, back and neck surgery, sports medicine, hand and upper extremity surgery, joint replacement surgery, knee surgery, shoulder surgery, foot and ankle surgery and orthopedic trauma surgery.
Pain Management Center of Paducah (Ky.). Pain Management Center of Paducah began operation in 1992 and now performs more than 9,000 procedures annually. The surgery center is led by medical director Laxmaiah Manchikanti, MD, who has been chairman of the board and CEO of the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians and Society of Interventional Pain Management Surgery Centers. Services performed at the surgery center include epidural injections, facet joint blocks, sacroiliac joint injections, discography, radiofrequency neurotomy and nucleoplasty. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Parkside Surgery Center (Jacksonville, Fla.). Parkside Surgery Center began serving its community in 1992. Surgical services include endoscopy, oral and dental surgery, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedic surgeon, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and urology. The surgery center is Medicare-certified and has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The surgery center is affiliated with Memorial Hospital Jacksonville.
Pavonia Surgery Center (Jersey City, N.J.). Pavonia Surgery Center opened in April 1992 on the fourth floor of the Hudson Eye Physicians and Surgeons practice. The practice was founded by Alfonse A. Cinotti, MD, and Barry Maltzman, MD. The single-room private ambulatory surgical facility is approved for ophthalmology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology, pain management and orthopedics procedures. There are eight physician owners of the surgery center.
The Physician's Surgical Care Center (Winter Park, Fla.). Opened in 1993, the center is a partnership among Florida Hospital; Surgical Care Affiliates; Jewett Orthopedic Clinic; Ear, Nose, Throat & Plastic Surgery Associates and JLR Medical Group. Specializing in orthopedic, ENT and pain management, the center's 30 physicians perform upwards of 9,000 procedures each year. This four-OR surgery center with three treatment rooms is comparatively small, but boasts impressive stats, operating smoothly and efficiently to keep patients, physicians and teammates happy. It is accredited by the Joint Commission with deemed status.
Presidio Surgery Center (San Francisco). Presidio Surgery Center was initially founded in 1989 as a joint venture with Sutter Health. It is now a joint venture between several physician groups and Sutter. The facility includes five operating rooms and one procedure room where physicians perform approximately 6,000 cases annually. There are several types of procedures performed at the center, including hip arthroscopy, minimally invasive spine surgery and pain management. The surgeons are also beginning to perform minimally invasive joint replacements. There are 41 physician partners and the orthopedic surgeons provide care for the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Ballet and Golden State Warriors. In addition to the surgical services, the center includes physical therapy for joint replacement patients. Further specialties at the surgery center include urology, ENT and general surgery.
Seattle Surgery Center. Seattle Surgery Center was founded in 1988 as the First Hill Surgery Center and relocated in 1993 to its current location in the old Cabrini Hospital. SSC is now a seven-operating room multispecialty ASC with a focus on orthopedics and ophthalmology. More than 100 credentialed physicians practice in 11 specialties. SSC is a member of the Washington Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and ASCA.
Southwestern Ambulatory Surgery Center (Pleasant Hills, Pa.). Southwestern Ambulatory Surgery Center opened in October 1986 as one of the first multi-specialty ASCs in Pennsylvania. Philip Ripepi, MD, helped found the center. It was solo- physician owned for about 17 years until 2007 when a joint venture between 24 physicians, dentists and Titan Health Corporation was formed. It is now a joint venture between the physicians, Monongahela Valley Hospital and United Surgical Partners International. SWASC consists of four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and one treatment room, and the facility performs approximately 3,800 annual adult and pediatric procedures, including general surgery, ophthalmology, GI, maxillofacial, dental, ENT, plastics, podiatry, urology and orthopedics.
Specialty Surgery Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Specialty Surgery Center has provided care for more than 35,000 patients in its community since 1992. It was the first Medicare-certified surgery center in the United States to provide oral and maxillofacial surgery, and in 2005 its license expanded to include ophthalmology and plastic surgery. The surgery center is led by President and CEO Jeffrey B. Carter, MD, DMD, and includes physicians in pediatric dentistry and dental implantology in addition to ophthalmology, plastic surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
St. Cloud (Minn.) Surgical Center. St. Cloud Surgical Center opened in 1972 by Joseph Belshe, MD, and was the first freestanding outpatient surgical center in Minnesota. Since its inception, St. Cloud Surgical has grown to 11 operating rooms and 36,000 square feet. In 1980 the center earned its first certification from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and has remained AAAHC-certified since. Jeanette Stack is the center's administrator and Jay Krauss, MD, the medical director. St. Cloud Surgical is affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates.
Summit Ambulatory Surgical Centers (Baltimore). Summit Ambulatory Surgical Centers, the 15-ASC arm of Chesapeake Urology Associates, opened its first surgery center in 1992 at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore City, Md. The surgery centers are home to 36,000 cases annually and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Services performed at the center include brachytherapy for prostate cancer, cytoscopy, prostate biopsy, vasectomy, hydrocelectomy, circumcision, and spermatocelectomy. Chesapeake Urology includes more than 45 physicians and 16 urology centers in addition to the 15 ASCs. The surgeons have been engaged in more than 100 clinical trials and performed more than 1,000 successful robotic prostatectomies.
Surgecenter of Louisville (Ky.). Surgecenter of Louisville in Kentucky opened in 1976, and it was the first ambulatory surgery center in the state and one of the first 10 in the country. Though still in the same location, Surgecenter has grown from an ophthalmology-focused center into a multispecialty facility with 40 practicing physicians. The physicians perform an average of 480 cases per month, and the facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Vicki Burns serves as the center's administrator, and it has been affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates since 2000.
Surgical Center of Greensboro (N.C.). Comprised of two facilities across the street from one another, this multispecialty center features a combined total of 13 ORs. Since 1983 and 1993 respectively, the Surgical Center of Greensboro and Orthopaedic Surgical Center have been safe, affordable and efficient options for outpatient surgical services in their community. Affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) they serve more than 13,000 patients and families annually, with more than 100 credentialed physicians and 140 teammates. Procedures include ENT, GYN, ophthalmology, oral, orthopedics, pain, plastic and general surgery. Together, the facilities feature nine 23-hour private recovery rooms and are accredited by The Joint Commission.
Toledo (Ohio) Clinic Outpatient Surgery Center. Toledo Clinic Outpatient Surgery Center, established in 1984, has 10 operating suites. The center is accredited by the AAAHC and recognized by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as a quality endoscopy center. Since its opening, the center underwent a large renovation project, increasing it from a 26,000-square-foot facility to the 35,500-square-foot center it is today. The center completes more than 11,000 procedures each year.
Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center (St. Charles, Ill.). Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center has been operating since 1987 and currently has more than 165 area multispecialty physicians on the medical staff. Physicians at VASC routinely perform more than 750 different types of procedures. The center boats a 99 percent patient satisfaction rating and an infection rate of less than 0.1 percent.
Venture Surgery Center (North Miami Beach, Fla.). Venture Ambulatory Surgery Center was established in 1992 and is a member of HCA. It has been accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care since 1999 and is part of the Medicare program. The surgery center includes 13 physician members on staff, led by medical director Susan Sager, DO. Surgeons use endoscopic techniques to perform gastroenterology procedures at the surgery center. The surgery center is affiliated with Aventura Medical Center.
Vidant SurgiCener (Greenville, N.C.). Vidant SurgiCenter is a free-standing multispecialty facility that annually performs more than 12,000 procedures. The center opened in 1982 and currently has a medical team of over 200 physicians. The center offers specialty procedures in general surgery, dental and oral surgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ENT, plastic surgery, gynecology, podiatry, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology and urology. The 40,000-square-foot center contains 10 operating rooms, 14 pre-operative beds, a 24 bed post anesthesia care unit, two pediatric pre-operative rooms and a six bed recovery center for 23 hour stays.
Virginia Beach (Va.) Ambulatory Surgery Center. The Virginia Beach Ambulatory Surgery Center is a for-profit outpatient surgery center that opened in October 1989. The ASC is a joint venture between physician partners and Sentara Health System to provide multispecialty care for adult and pediatric patients. Orthopedic services at the ASC include arthroscopy, ACL repair, carpal tunnel release, fracture repair and rotator cuff repair. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.
Wilmington (N.C.) SurgCare. Wilmington SurgCare was established in 1992 and includes surgeons specializing in otolaryngology, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, pain management, urology and podiatry. The surgery center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and the surgeons have admitting privileges at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The surgery center is affiliated with Symbion Healthcare and includes 80 physicians on its medical staff. The surgery center includes seven operating rooms and three procedure rooms.
