15 private equity deals for orthopedics, GI & ophthalmology in 2019

Here are 15 private equity deals that have closed in the gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and spine industries:

Gastroenterology

1. Evanston-based Illinois Gastroenterology Group closed a private equity deal joining the GI Alliance, which created the largest independent gastroenterology services organization in the nation. GI Alliance then invested in five ASCs owned by Texas Digestive Disease Consultants and the Illinois Gastroenterology Group and then partnered with Beaumont-based Southeast Texas Gastroenterology Associates.

2. Amulet Capital Partners formed US Digestive Health, a gastrointestinal-focused practice management organization, through its investment in three Pennsylvania GI practices.

3. Regional GI, Main Line Gastroenterology Associates and Digestive Disease Associates merged in a $130 million deal with private equity firm Amulet Capital.

4. Gastro Health made its first out-of-state acquisition acquiring Birmingham, Ala.-based Southeast Gastro.

5. Gastro Health expanded outside of the southeastern market, acquiring Seattle-based Puget Sound Gastroenterology.

Orthopedics/Spine

6. New York-based private-equity firm Kohlberg & Company invested in Greenwich, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Specialists, a three-location multispecialty group.

7. Cincinnati-based Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine launched a national management services organization in partnership with private equity firm Revelstoke Capital Partners in July.

8. Cora Physical Therapy, a portfolio company of private-equity firm Gryphon Investors acquired Rockford, Ill.-based Orthopedic and Sports Therapy Institute, expanding its portfolio by six practices.

9. New York-based private-equity firm Kohlberg & Company invested in Greenwich, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Specialists, a three-location multispecialty group.

Ophthalmology/Optometry

10. Redding, Calif.-based Larkspur Optometry partnered with private equity-backed integrated eye care services provider Eyecare Services Partners Management.

11. EyeSouth Partners, a private equity-backed management company, partnered with eyecare practices Eyecare Associates in Metairie, La., and Lanoux & Associates in New Orleans.

12. Ophthalmology private equity investment platform SightMD partnered with New York City-based Park Avenue Eye Institute.

13. Miami-based Eye Surgery Associates partnered with Dallas-based private equity-backed EyeCare Services Partners Management for an undisclosed amount July 15.

14. EyeSouth Partners affiliated with Crossville, Tenn.-based Cumberland Eye Care and Plateau ASC as well as Cookeville (Tenn.) Eye Specialists and Perimeter ASC.

15. Private equity-backed Omni Ophthalmic Management Consultants acquired an eye center with locations in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
