10 New ASCs Opened or Under Development by Hospitals and Health Systems

Here are 10 recently announced reports about surgery centers opening or under development by hospitals and health systems.


1. New York Hospital Breaks Ground on New Surgery Center in Poughkeepsie - Vassar Brothers Medical Center has announced it has broken ground on a new ASC as part of a roughly $66 million, 78,000-square-foot expansion project. The new surgery center will be 26,000 square feet and include four operating theatres, according to a news release from the hospital.


2. Pennsylvania Health System Breaks Ground on New Surgery Center in Peters Township - West Penn Allegheny Health System has announced it has broken ground on a new ASC in Peters Township, Pa., just south of Pittsburgh. West Penn Allegheny expects to invest $14 million to develop Outpatient Care Center – Peters Township in a 55,000-square-foot facility.


3. Louisiana Hospital Opens New Surgery Center in Covington - St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, La., has announced the opening of its new 20,000 square-foot ASC. Covington Surgery Center has three OR suites and will perform procedures in many specialties including orthopedics, ENT, urology, dental surgery and gynecology.


4. New Surgery Center for California Hospital Funded by ARRA - A new ASC for Corcoran (Calif.) District Hospital will receive $12 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The loan will help construct a single-story, 17,000-square-foot outpatient center.


5. New Missouri ASC Part of Scotland County Hospital Expansion - Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Mo., has broken ground on a $10 million expansion project which includes a new surgery center. The expansion will be funded by the ARRA.


6. Special Permit for ASC Approved for Winchester Hospital in Massachusetts - Winchester (Mass.) Hospital has received a special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals to build a 31,200-square-foot surgery center.


7. Washington Hospital Receives ASC CON After State Supreme Court Ruling - Swedish Health Services in Seattle has received a certificate-of-need to build a five-OR surgery center after the Washington Supreme Court ruled the state's department of health appropriately determined there was a need for such a facility.


8. New ASC Planned for Louisiana's Woman's Hospital MOB - The infrastructure for a new ASC is part of a $40 million medical office building for Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., that will commence construction soon.


9. New ASC Planned by Detroit's Oakwood Healthcare - Oakwood Healthcare System in Detroit has developed plans for a $23 million medical building that would include a new ASC. Oakwood has not yet filed for the required certificate-of-need for the ASC.


10. New Washington ASC Opens in Pasco Hospital – A new surgery center has opened in the Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco, Wash. The $2 million ASC features 12 private rooms, three GI procedure rooms and a Mako surgery robot for knee and hip replacements.
