10 Hospitals & Health Systems Recently Opening or Planning Surgery Centers

HospitalHere are 10 hospitals and health systems that have recently announced the opening or construction plans for ambulatory surgery centers.

Montefiore Medical Center and WESTMED Practice Partners have announced plans, in conjunction with Simone Health Development Group, to build a new medical building, which includes a surgery center. The surgery center will include 12 operating rooms and four procedure rooms.

Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, N.J., and a group of 25 physicians have begun construction on a $45 million joint venture surgery center. The ASC is expected to reach completion by fall of next year.

Novant Health has announced plans to begin construction on a new medical facility this year. The $5.5 million medical building will include a two-operating room surgery center.

St. Luke's in Boise, Idaho, is building a $12 million surgery center in front of its Meridian Hospital. The surgery center will initially have two open operating rooms, with a total of six ORs. The facility is expected to open in December 2013.

St. Joseph Hospital, New Hampshire Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Nashua have collaborated to open a new outpatient surgery center. The partnership was formed because it would have been more expensive for each hospital to open an individual center.

Allegheny (Pa.) Health System has announced that it will open a surgery center in Monroeville, Pa., this month. The center will have four operating rooms and three endoscopy rooms.

Oneida Health Systems and physicians are awaiting state approval for the construction of the $5.24 million Westmoreland Ambulatory Surgery Center in New York. The 17,000-square-foot facility is expected to create 20 new jobs.

Children's National Medical Center and Inova Health System are planning to open a joint venture pediatric surgery center in Fairfax, Va. The Pediatric Specialists of Virginia would operate the center. If the center earns certificate of need approval, it is expected to open in the first quarter of 2014.

Lakes Regional Healthcare, based in Spirit Lakes, Iowa, is nearing completion of a $20 million expansion project, which includes a new surgery center.

Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga, N.Y., is planning a $3.5 million ambulatory surgery center project. The project involves the relocation of an Amherst surgery center to a space on the hospital's campus.
