Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) is urging the FDA to use a proposed system to avert drug shortages and improve drug safety, according to a Bennet news release.
By implementing a so-called uniform pedigree standard for drugs, the FDA would be able to make sure all drugs are manufactured, stored and distributed safely and enter distribution channels legally as they move through the supply chain.
The system could also help the FDA avert potential drug shortages by identifying the amount of each drug currently available or in the manufacturing process.
