U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) introduced legislation that would allow medical devices to be approved directly without the review to determine if a similar device already exists on the market, according to a news release.
Currently, medical devices must go through a process to determine whether a similar device is already on the market. The Safe, Efficient and Transparent Medical Device Approval Act would remove that step and provide a streamlined approval process.
