The Healthcare Supply Chain Association applauds the Generic Pharmaceutical Association for proposing the Accelerated Recovery Initiative, a private sector solution to the drug shortage problem, according to a news release.
The Accelerated Recovery Initiative calls for an independent third party to analyze supply information to identify existing and potential drug shortages and involve a "SWAT team" within the FDA to respond to shortages. The focus would be on products with an estimated shortage time of more than 90 days.
"Drug shortages are a complex challenge, and one without an easy or overnight fix. The ARI is an important first step in helping hospitals and healthcare providers mitigate the impact of current drug shortages, and helping prevent future shortages," said HSCA President Curtis Rooney in the release.
