Boston University Gets $13.6M to Study Cancer Detection Tools

Boston University School of Medicine is the lead institution on a $13.6 million grant-funded study to develop early detection tools for lung cancer for active military personnel and veterans, a university news release said.

BUSM will collaborate with military hospitals and Veteran's Affairs medical centers nationwide to research and create new tools for the detection of lung cancer. Smoking is 50 percent more common in the military than in the regular population, and veterans are 25-75 percent more likely to develop lung cancer than non-veterans.
