The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has awarded the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education a grant worth up to $35 million over the next five years to improve drug manufacturing standards, according to a news release.
The goal of the grant is to cut healthcare costs, create jobs in the U.S. and improve drug safety. The current cost of bringing a drug to the market is upwards of $1 billion, and drugs and drug ingredients are increasingly imported. NIPTE is a non-profit organization with 10 member universities that conducts research and education in pharmaceutical product development and manufacturing.
