Just over half of ASCs say improving outcomes is the most important supply chain goal, according to 2018 data from the Health Industry Distributors Association.
Three takeaways:
1. Improving outcomes is a top supply chain priority for 53 percent of ASCs. An administrator in the Midwest said their facility aims to lower costs where possible while improving quality and safety.
2. The three main factors influencing ASC supply chain decision-makers are demonstrated clinical results (64 percent), controlling costs (58 percent) and product quality (52 percent).
3. Eighty-eight percent of ASCs purchase medical-surgical supplies through distributors. A physician in the Southeast said to HIDA, "We'd like to have more services and equipment, with lasers and new machinery, that allows us to shift care from hospital to ASC."
