Proventix Systems, based in Birmingham, Ala., has awarded the Lathem Physician Leadership Award in Hand Hygiene to six physicians who demonstrate a commitment to excellence and leadership in hand hygiene in their facilities.
The Lathem Award recognizes high-quality, compassionate care to patients through exemplary hand hygiene practices and is awarded to those who demonstrate quality through personal compliance and vocal, active leadership. The 2012 recipients are as follows:
• Scott James, infectious disease/virology specialist at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
• William O'Byrne, MD, anesthesiologist at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
• Tracy Osborne, MD, internal medicine and infectious disease specialist at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
• Blal Zafar, MD, hospitalist at River Park Hospital in McMinnville, Tenn.
• Ty Hughston, MD, internal medicine specialist at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas
• Michael Darville, MD, clinical director of ICU at Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas
