NYU Medical Center Scans Patient Palms to Enhance Safety

NYU Medical Center in New York is the latest hospital to implement technology designed to enhance patient safety, according to a New York Daily News report.

The device scans patient's palms with infrared light to read unique imprints. The imprints are then linked to the patient's electronic medical record. Tens of thousands of patients have already registered their palms, though patients are not required to participate.
