An article published in the July 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that an underutilized tool in patient care may be the patients themselves.
In the article, researchers from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the National Quality Forum described pathways for developing patient-reported quality measures, recently developed by the NQF and advising organizations.
Researchers illuminated the importance of receiving patient input while continuing to use scientific rigor, noting that patient input measures may have the potential to improve the care experience for both patients and caregivers at all levels.
