UPMC researchers are embarking on a five-year study with an aim to finally create the first set of protocols for diagnosing and treating sepsis in the emergency room, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The study, which will be funded by the National Institutes of Health, is designed to determine interventions that can stop the progress of sepsis and septic shock; management protocols for the first six hours after diagnosis; and the long-term outcomes for those who suffered some sepsis.
