Michael Caruso, DO, an ophthalmic surgeon with Atlantic Eye Center, has successfully reduced outpatient procedure times since establishing Cape Cataract Center in 2003, according to the Cape May County Herald.
"We now have progressed to a 15 minute outpatient procedure," Dr. Caruso said. "The hospital has been eliminated completely, laboratory tests are minimal and most patients may continue their medications preoperatively."
Because of advancements made in the past three decades, Dr. Caruso's patients can also select which intraocular lenses will be used in their eye procedures. Patients can choose a standard lens for distance, a high-tech lens for better night vision, or a multifocal lens for far, intermediate and near vision.
Atlantic Eye Center and Cape Cataract Center are in Cape May Court House, N.J.
