Massachusetts' Board of Registration in Medicine has prohibited Ronald Nasif, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, from performing any surgeries for delivering "substandard care," according to a Boston Globe news report.
The board had also temporarily suspended his license, but that decision was lifted after Dr. Nasif agreed to ongoing evaluation and monitoring from another physician, implementing recommendations from those evaluations and observations of his practice for five years. The disciplinary action was issued after the board discovered seven cases of substandard care.
In one case, Dr. Nasif recorded conflicting diagnoses for a patient with shoulder pain and did not order a CT scan or consider other nonsurgical treatments before manipulating the patient's shoulder in an OR, according to the news report. The news report did not provide details about the other substandard deliveries of care.
