CMS has issued guidance on Medicare coverage for those affected by the meningitis outbreak.
CMS believes that, aside from oral drugs, items and services to diagnose and treat patients who have received contaminated steroid products produced by the New England Compounding Center qualify for the Medicare Part A or Part B benefit.
CMS has also urged Medicare contractors to review CDC updates to ensure timely access to recommended healthcare items and services and to expedite all coverage determination requests for those items and services to include antifungal medication.
