B. Braun to Display Advancements in Safety and Education at APIC

B. Braun Medical will display a range of safety-engineered devices designed to advance protection from infection in the healthcare setting at the annual APIC conference from June 4 to June 6 in San Antonio.

The company's new IntroCan Safety 3 Closed IV Catheter will be featured, directly addressing issues pertaining to exposure to bloodborne pathogens and catheter-related complications. Like B. Braun's existing Introcan Safety IV Catheter, the next generation Introcan Safety 3 includes passive safety protection from needlestick injuries, with the addition of an innovative multi-access blood control septum to aid in the prevention of blood exposure each time the device is accessed.

An integrated stabilization platform is designed to improve catheter stability and minimize movement in the vein, which could help reduce catheter-related complications. Introcan Safety 3 Closed IV Catheter will be available for widespread distribution in July 2012.

Other safety innovations to be displayed include the CARESITE needleless connector and ULTRAPORT zerO 4-way stopcock, both designed to reduce potential for contamination.
