The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology gave 12 infection preventionists the Heroes of Infection Prevention Award for successfully reducing infection, raising awareness and improving the health and well-being of patients, healthcare workers and the public.
The recipients are nominated by their peers or self-nominated and must meet criteria in education, patient safety, advocacy and influence, process and systems development, program development and cost savings.
APIC has also chosen six chapters to receive $2,500 in grants to host an infection prevention activity for the International Infection Prevention Week, which is Oct. 14-20. Applicants are judged on the creativity and uniqueness of their program idea; its potential to educate and raise awareness about infection prevention; the feasibility of the project and budget; and an organized approach to program execution.
