Lawmakers have introduced for the second time legislation that would create a nationwide drug tracking system. The proposal was first introduced as part of the FDA user fee law passed earlier this summer but failed to manifest.
Last week, lawmakers have reinvigorated their fight to create the drug system, which would include these three key components:
1. The proposed system would preempt state tracking systems.
2. The proposed system would track drugs at the lot level, not the unit level.
3. The proposed system would undergo pilot testing and be subject to public meetings and legislative revisions over a five- and 10-year timeline.
