Should health organizations be held responsible for physician suicide? Practitioners weigh in

About one-third of physicians believe that medical schools and healthcare organizations should be held responsible for physician suicide, according to Medscape's 2023 "Physician Suicide Report," which surveyed over 9,100 practicing physicians. 

About 32 percent of physicians between the ages of 27 and 41 believe that organizations should be held responsible, while 19 percent believe they should not. 

Among physicians ages 42 to 56, 30 percent believe that health organizations should be responsible, while 45 percent believe they should not. 

While 38 percent of physicians ages 57 to 75 believe that organizations should be held responsible, 37 percent believe they should not.
