Four esteemed gastroenterology, ophthalmology and ASC leaders have died in the first half of 2023:
1. Alan Lake, MD, the first board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital, died at 76.
2. Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center's former director of the system's division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, Raymond Burk, MD, died at the age of 80.
3. Ophthalmologist Bruce Ochsner, MD, founder of the Ochsner Eye Surgery Center in Wichita, Kan., died at 83.
4. Joseph Cutchin Jr., MD, founder of the first Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care-accredited ASC in Maryland, died at 87.
